The Khmer Girls in Action (KGA) Yellow Lounge just rung in its eighth year of life. Hosted on Friday, May 11, 2012, this year’s celebration brought something different: Youth at the CORE, Fighting for Wellness. The event featured youth who expressed their struggles in school, as well as their lack of access to safe spaces. There were also performances of spoken word, cultural dances, and skits. “The event is pretty much about trying to gather a wellness center for high schools here in Long Beach, especially here [at] Poly. And we’ve been putting this on for about a month so all youth can share their stories and show off their talents,” says Linda Lath, a KGA youth member who MC’ed that night.
