Celebrating Bike Culture in Long Beach

Jun. 12, 2015 / By

On Saturday May 30, the Downtown Arts District became a little piece of heaven in the form of a block party, for bike riders and hobbyists of all skill levels, and bike interests, for Downtown Long Beach Associates’ Bike Fest 2015.

The events’ organizers, Downtown Long Beach Associates, encouraged cyclists in the downtown area to “explore downtown by bike” year round, giving out waterproof pocket-sized bike maps complete with safety tips, repair shops, and bike paths throughout the downtown area.

“The bike culture in Long Beach is pretty cool– they’re pushing the urban cycling pretty well,” said Wolfpack Hustle Team Rider, Roque Salas. “The streets have bike paths and a place to lock your bike up. A lot of cities aren’t that welcoming to bicycle riders.”

VoiceWaves spoke with cyclists who gave me their feedback on Bikefest and overall bike-friendliness in Long Beach.
