Hiyasmin Saturay

Hiyasmin Saturay is a filmmaker and artist born and raised in the Philippines. Her family was forced to move to the Netherlands as refugees when the Philippine military targeted her family for organizing against a mining company trying to gain access to their island of Mindoro. She now resides in Long Beach and likes to do various community organizing work with the Filipino community. She is also member of Habi-Arts, an LA-based organization of Filipino artists fighting for genuine democracy and liberation in the Philippines.

The theme was “Lakas ng Pagkakaisa,” or “Strength in Unity” in Tagalog, and including workshops on “various forms of expression, such as theater, visual art, hip-hop, spoken word, and poetry.”
