Feb. 7, 2014 / By

Khmer Girls In Action will host a week-long event across four different high schools to educate, excite and engage students in being healthy and well.   It is an opportunity to connect students to the information, resources and skills to support their physical, emotional, and mental health and is part of KGA’s Youth at the CORE Campaign.  Throughout the week there will be after-school workshops, lunch-time rallies and a health fair.

Wellness Week takes place Tuesday, February 18 – Friday, February 21, 2014

Health Fair will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 11:35 a.m. – 12:35 p.m. at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, Long Beach Polytechnic High School, Woodrow Wilson Classical High School, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo High School, David Starr Jordan High School

Khmer Girls In Action is a community-based organization that empowers Southeast Asian youth in Long Beach.  The Children’s Clinic, Long Beach Health Department, Planned Parenthood, Women’s Shelter of Long beach, The Guidance Center, the Office of Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal, and more will participate in the Health Fair at Poly High School.

February is National School-Based Health Care Awareness Month.   KGA’s Wellness Week is part of the Youth at the CORE Campaign to establish wellness centers at Long Beach high schools.  When a student’s physical, mental, and emotional health needs are met, it makes it easier to attend school, focus in the classroom and succeed academically.  School-based wellness centers provide preventative care, health education, support services and connect students to resources so that they can be healthy and thrive.
