Latina Conference Focuses On Leadership & Education

May. 7, 2015 / By

Latinos In Action held its second annual women’s conference on March 21, with the focus of empowering women to bring out their inner leaders. Many women at the conference voiced their struggles as working mothers and their fears about going back to school or starting their own businesses.

According to the 2010 Census, 40.8 percent of the population is Latino, making up for most of Long Beach. About 15 percent of women in Long Beach work in healthcare and as little as 5 percent work in finance and insurance, Long Beach City Data reports. The conference leaders hoped to motivate women from different parts of Latin America to better their lives, get an education and overcome their fears and challenges.

“I’m learning how to overcome things and how I shouldn’t stay where I am and look for more opportunities and do more for myself,” said Angelica Murillo, conference attendee.
