You may see multimedia reporter M. Smith taking a stroll around the community of Long Beach but what may look like a trip to the corner store or local barber, M never stops looking for a new compelling story. Smith mostly publishes as a video journalist, but also writes, photographs, as well. M strives to get the best camera shots and offer readers and viewers a full experience by submitting a package deal of photos, a story, and a video to complement each article. Smith wears many hats including producing the Wavegang podcast as a team manager.

Thomas Lick also goes by the artist name Vanguard and is an aspiring filmmaker and performer with hopes of someday becoming the next Orson Welles. He spends his journalistic efforts focusing on the underdog and highlighting social issues. He is also a huge fan of urban design and all things Disney.

Alexa Ortega-Ramirez is an aspiring journalist. Being a minority and feminist, who is influenced by her civil rights activist father, Alexa is a firm believer in social activism and justice. She is working toward her BA in journalism. In her spare time, she is enjoys photography, bike riding, reading, being a community activist and is a supporter of the arts. She is glad to join the Voicewaves team because she sees it as an opportunity for growth both personally and in her field of study.

Jessica Salgado was born and raised in Long Beach. She is currently a journalism student at California State University, Long Beach.

Alma Rodriguez is currently a senior at Millikan High School and has lived in Westside Long Beach her whole life. As a high school student she is a part of many school events and she was even part of her schools basketball team freshman year. She is currently a Link Crew Leader at her school and hopes that one day she can become a psychologist. In 7th grade she began to write poems and stories as a way to voice her thoughts. Now as a part of Voicewaves, she is using her writing to voice more than just her thoughts, she's a voice for Long Beach.

Karen Marin was raised in Long Beach and is currently a student at Cabrillo High School. While in high school, she has been involved in sports, and sports have become a huge part of her life. She plans to pursue a career in sports journalism because of her passion for football and past experience in tennis and badminton. She is extremely involved at school and has learned more about her fellow youth with the help of Voicewaves.

Oscar A. Bautista is a tenacious reporter working to improve himself in order to give back to his community. Having grown up in South Central Los Angeles, he knows firsthand about the violence and struggle lower income communities have to deal with. Instead of following in the footsteps of many of his peers, he put his focus onto his education.
Oscar is currently working towards his BA in Journalism at Cal State Long Beach. He is immersing himself into photography and local music so that he can experience what the community had to offer.

Kallayan is a graduate of Long Beach City College. She is a self-described hyper-masculine illustrator, graphic designer, gamer and fitness freak. She left enough of a mark at LBCC's The Viking to be awarded an editor-in-chief award despite never being an editor-in-chief there.

Ben Novotny is an alumnus of California State University, Long Beach where he majored in Journalism and minored in American Studies. At CSULB Ben was a staff writer for The Union Weekly, the student-run campus newspaper and was actively involved with the school's TV production studio. Ben was a Contributing Writer for The Long Beach Post and the Long Beach Business Journal and has been a Youth Reporter at VoiceWaves for four years.
