Peace In The Park

Jan. 16, 2012 / By

The Peace Fest was just one of many events leading up to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade on the 14th of January. The Peace Fest was a celebration filled with exhibitions about prominent civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King, Caesar Chavez, Mahatma Gandhi, and more. There was cultural music, vendors, as well as arts and crafts. Around 5:30 PM, attendees gathered for the Peace march which was led by 6th District Councilmember Dee Andrews and Mayor Bob Foster.

As the march began the crowd sang passionately, lit candles in hand. Passing drivers honked in support as attendees marched from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s statue all along Lemon Street, up to PCH, down Orange Street, and until returning to the park again. After the march, the celebration continued with a dancing contest.
