Hub Coordinator – Building Healthy Communities: Long Beach

Project Background and Description

Building Healthy Communities: Long Beach (BHC) is a public health initiative funded entirely by The California Endowment (TCE). The effort is intended to improve the health of people living in fourteen communities through policy and systems change that is driven by intentional resident engagement and systems partnerships. The community collaborative (Hub) in Long Beach recently completed the second iteration of the Community Action Plan and the Steering Committee is now in its second (2-year) term. This collaborative (made up of residents, systems leaders, community benefit organizations and other stakeholders) is coordinated and managed by the Hub Manager who reports to the Steering Committee (SC) and works jointly with the Program Manager for TCE.

Based at the office of Building Healthy Communities: Long Beach (BHC Long Beach), the Hub Coordinator is a key thought partner who crafts communication and serves as the central portal for most information shared with Hub partners. Most importantly, the Hub Coordinator serves as a link between program, collaboration, media and policy efforts and the community. This person must be able to communicate effectively within the healthcare environment, as well as with residents in the community. They will help design and implement media campaigns and communications plans as it relates to the Community Action Plan and on an as needed basis, when appropriate. The Hub Coordinator also develops media campaigns and opportunities in mainstream and ethnic media channels, manages content on the website, manages graphic design and video, provides media education and training to community members and other duties, as assigned.
