In this story, VoiceWaves contributor Abel Reyes (@abelreyeslb) shares some of the life story of Oum Ry, a Cambodian kickboxing legend who runs the Long Beach Khmer Kickboxing Center. Ry's story is told in length in the new book "I Am Oum Ry," a biography penned by Zochada Tat, his daughter, and family friend Addi Somekh.

The California State University Board of Trustees The California State University Board of Trustees will be voting on a tuition increase of 6%, to be facilitated over the course of five years, at their meeting on September 13. Students and faculty have responded calling it a decision that could make higher education more inaccessible to students.

Here, some students and faculty at a recent protest at Cal State Long Beach share why they are against the proposed tuition increase.
