Tito Rodriguez, also known as the “Hood Santa,” and Jose “Dire” Mercado, owner of 1897LB, came together once again for their third annual backpack giveaway. On Saturday Aug. 4, the duo along with the help of many volunteers set up tables filled with backpacks outside of the 1897LB clothing store. Children from pre-school to high school lined up on the sidewalk to receive a backpack.
With the continued support and donations from the community and local businesses, the organizers hope that the giveaway will grow to serve thousands of children in need.
